Maui Orchid Society
Where Flowers & Fellowship Blossom
General Membership Meeting
July 16, 2019
Location: Velma McWayne Santos Community Center - Wailuku
The Maui Orchid Society General Membership Meeting was pleased to host Rafael Romero, Owner/Operator of Plantio La Orquidea from Sarasota, Florida. Rafael provided samples of Schomburgkia with excellent pictures showing parent plants with the hybrids using Schomburgkia. Rafael shared that these plants are often referred to as the banana orchid because of their long bulbs that turn yellow in the sunshine. Additionally, they are very hardy and can withstand temperatures from 33F to 100+F with very little water. We had repeat winners at the Show and Tell table with Andy Okada taking the Advanced Division with his Dendrochillum filliforum; Agnes Groff with the Intermediate Division with her Phal. (no name); Tina Martin's win in the Novice Division was with her Cymbidium aloifolium. Members are encouraged to bring their plants to the monthly meetings to share with members on the Show & Tell tables.
And remember to sign up to volunteer at the next event - Maui County Fair. Everyone is welcome!
